Alamo Trivia

Posted: Nov 12 2014

Every true Texan needs to know the History of Texas, in order to be able to appreciate the unique gift we are given in being able to call ourselves Texans. Being a true Texan is as much a state of mind as it is a birthright or a manner of living. Yesterday was the 176th anniversary of the fall of the Alamo.

There is probably no other signature moment in Texas history that defines us as who are than the spirit of those first Texans, whose sacrifice we all try to live up to. It is the degree to which we each individually measure up to that standard that differentiates true Texans from riff-raff no-account Yankee Cowboys, that and unshined boots.

First the important part: How do you make an Alamo Splash?
Duke says: All true Texans drink hard liquor. Ladies included.
Beer is for horses.

  • 1 1/2 oz Tequila (the best you can afford. Cheap will do if
  • you're down on your luck, but other people's
  • is best of all.)
  • 1 oz Orange Juice (fresh squeezed from a freshly peeled Naval
  • Orange from the hands of a Texas Lady. No
  • rind flavor, please, or it will need to be
  • discarded or passed off to a Yankee Cowboy
  • who won't know the difference.)
  • 1/2 oz Pineapple Juice (see Orange Juice for appropriate
  • preparation.)
  • 1 splash Lemon Lime soda
  • Stir and strain into a Collins Glass filled with ice, garnish with
  • a slice of Lime; Note: South Texas Girls like
  • their ice crushed.

Appropriate Toasts: "God and Texas! Victory or Death", So ended the final plea for
assistance from Lt.Col. Travis, Comdt.

"In the name of Liberty, of patriotism and everything dear to the
American character", To the People of Texas and all Americans
in the world. Lt. Col. Travis, Comdt.

"die like a soldier who never forgets what is due to his own honor
and that of his country.", To the People of Texas and all Americans
in the world. Lt. Col. Travis, Comdt.

"our flag still waves proudly from the wall- I shall never Surrender
or retreat", To the people of Texas and all Americans in the world.
Lt. Col. Travis, Comdt.

Drink to excess.
